I grew up showing and breeding rabbits and cavies through my local 4-H club. My passion for small animals expanded to chinchillas as pets for many years. Due to my education and career, I needed to take a break for a time as I had limited time for pets. As both began to demand less of my personal time, I joined Empress to see what has changed with chinchilla knowledge as I think I've read or own most books published on chinchillas. I've pursued knowledge through online research, reading the monthly Empress newsletter written by national chinchilla experts and attending club meetings which feel more like fireside chats with world class specialists. There is much that has been learned since the early 1900's but many more unanswered questions remain in the world of chinchillas.
I have a very small herd out in Arizona that started in 2024. As I will stay small, each animal requires extra care and thought. I'm hoping to have standard and ebony chinchilla's available in the future. In the mean time, I would love to focus on education of this wonderful small animal we are so lucky to have available to us. Pictures of the Grand Canyon and Antelope Canyon on this website were taken at previous visits to these beautiful locations.
Grand Canyon Chinchillas was established in 2024.
